Out - R.A.G.E. - ous

The R.A.G.E. was a huge success this summer. This summer saw as many boys and adults as the last two summers combined. Youth and adults from all over the state participated. Participants included youth from the Concho Valley Council as well as from councils such as Sam Houston Area, Alamo Area, Capitol Area, Buffalo Trails, Chisholm Trail, South Plains, and Rio Grande.

R.A.G.E. events centered around ranching activities, however, many other high adventure activities took place.  Everyone stayed in the old Sol Mayer barn and lived the life of a Rancher. Participants selected their own horses and spent the rest of the week becoming Wranglers. The boys shot Black Powder and Skeet with shotguns. We braved the moss to swim in a watering tank. They were able to go critter calling one night. Wednesday night was spent at Fort McKavett with the highlight being an Exotic Game dinner and appearances by the resident ghost. A canoe trip down the raging San Saba river was followed by an afternoon of rappelling off the 60 foot tower. The week ended with an actual cattle or goat drive on a neighboring ranch. The cattle were spayed and the goats were worked and then driven back to pasture.

Everyone had a great time, and most would agree the R.A.G.E. food was awesome! All boys completed Horsemanship and many requirements for merit badges such as Archeology, Shotgun Shooting, Cycling, Canoeing, and Climbing.
