Our congratulations to these Eagle Scouts for accomplishing what only two percent of all Scouts are able to do.  These Eagles today are the leaders of America and the world tomorrow.

When the West was Fun!!
Mom ‘N Me

Don’t miss the Rooting, Tooting good time at Mom and Me this year. Camp Sol Mayer will be transformed into the Old West for the first two weekends in May. This year will feature World Champion Rodeo Cowboys demonstrating their skills for all Cub Scouts and their mothers. There will be Barrel Racing and Calf Roping for everyone to try their hand at.  A dunking booth will be set up to provide escape from the scorching dessert sun. The Oasis (swimming pool) will be filled to capacity, offering a hideout for all Outlaws. There will be a Rodeo Clown Class as well as Trick Roping Demonstrations throughout the day. The O.K. Corral will be open to show off your marksman skills. Ride the roaring rapids of the Mighty San Saba in our Ravine Rafts (canoes). The Rappelling tower will be open for all moms mustering the courage. The first Mom and Me will be May 1st and 2nd followed by the second weekend on May 8th and 9th.  Registration is $15 per person. If you have not received a registration form in the mail call the Council Office. Please register early. Meals are provided for Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Advancement Reports Required

It is critical that an advancement report accompanies any order for advancements. Picking up advancements and not providing the proper paperwork jeopardizes a Scout’s future ranks. A boy will be very dependent upon accurate records as he progresses. Before a boy can be approved for the rank of Eagle his records have to be checked for correct dates and a multiple of other items. These boys will come to depend on proper record keeping. The Council office will now require an advancement report for all advancements. This is for all Cub Scout and Boy Scout advancements. Phone orders will still be accepted, however, you will need to fax your order in first. Our fax number is (915) 657-0139.

ATTENTION: BSA DRIVERS
Don’t Enter the Risk Zone

To recognize when your’re in the “Risk Zone” and help you steer clear of it, safety experts offer these tips:

  • Make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before the trip.
  • Take a break every 75 to 100 miles, especially in the afternoon.
  • Whenever possible, travel with two adults in each vehicle.  If this can’t be done, assign an older youth to be your “co-pilot” and make sure he stays awake.

Always stop when you detect even one of the following critical warning signals:

  • Continual yawning
  • Missing traffic signals
  • Trouble keeping your head up
  • Wandering or disconnected thoughts
  • Drifting between lanes or the shoulder
