Amangi Trail Commissioners Corner
By Chris Snow District Commissioner

The New Year allows us to reflect on 2008 and set our sights on making 2009 even better.  First and for most let me congratulate our district award winners and those individuals that achieved training awards in 2008.  It is through their efforts and the efforts of all our volunteers that we deliver a quality program to the youth of the Amangi Trial and the Concho Valley.

Of course I am very proud of the achievements of our commissioners.  Mike Neary and Tim Vasquez earned their arrowhead award.  Three of our commissioners, Frank Berthold, Mike Erickson and Sarabeth Erickson, were presented with the new Doctorate of Commissioner Science knot.  Frank Berthold was also awarded the Distinguished Commissioner Award for his service as District and Assistant District Commissioner.  Mike and Sarabeth Erickson received the Distinguished Commissioner Award for service as unit commissioners.  All three have served our district for a number of years and are usually involved with most district and council events.  Last but not least, our Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner Diane Ditmore received the District Award of Merit.  Congratulations to all, and I truly feel lucky to work with such an outstanding group.

As Commissioners we serve as liaisons between the professionals and the units.  Commissioners are friends to the units they serve and can usually be found on staff at most events.  A properly functioning District needs a strong commissioner corp.  We are a small but dedicated group always looking for interested individuals to join us in unit service.  If you have been looking for your place in scouting now that your son has cross over or aged out; or are interested in service at the district level please contact me so we can discuss the opportunities.
