A Year in Review- The Amangi Trail District had a good year in 2007. Made up of 57 units (27 Packs, 26 Troops, and 4 Venturing Crews), the District Committee strives to support over 1,050 youth and 350 adult leaders. Lead by Monte Mahon the District Chairman, Tim
Vasquez the District Commissioner, and a strong District Committee staff, we have accomplished many goals over the past year. To recognize those volunteers who helped make last year a success, the Amangi Trail District held their annual Recognition Dinner on January 19, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Downtown San Angelo. The Amangi Trailblazer Award went to two outstanding volunteers for all their hard work over the past year: Charles & Diane Ditmore. Finally, our highest award for the District,
the “Amangi Trail District Award of Merit”, went to two worthy leaders: Vonnie Sharp, Bo Strickland, and Greg Pecina.
Looking Forward to 2008 - In the Boy Scouts of America there is always something to do, and of course the Amangi Trail lives up to that statement. Next weekend, January 26th, the District will have an opportunity to participate in the city-wide Food Drive. The month of February brings forth events all units should be looking forward to: Courts of Honor, Blue & Gold Banquets, and Unit Derby Races. The District will cap off Derby Race time with our very own District Derby on March 29th.
Also, many training events will be coming up in the spring, the first, Basic Leader Training, will be February 16th and BALOO / Outdoor training will happen March 1st. Directed by Vonnie Sharp and Diane Ditmore, we anticipate having an exciting District Day Camp in July. Finally, please don’t forget to come to our District Roundtables on every second Thursday of the month to get more details on these and similar activities. Another reminder, a district wide clean up will be held at Baden Powell on February 23rd
at 8 am.
Roundtable– 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. At Sierra Vista United Methodist Church on College Hills. Here are the upcoming themes for the next three Roundtables: February – Litter to Glitter, March – Abracadabra, April – Leaf It to Cubs
Roundtable is making changes for the better. Always striving for excellence, the roundtable staff has established new programs to help serve our volunteer leaders better. We welcome children of all ages to attend roundtable with their parents. Roundtable is a family friendly event. We serve snacks at roundtable, and with programs / activities of their own, we strive to keep all the children in attendance entertained while their parents are busy learning about Scouting. So don’t worry about having to stay home
on the 2nd Thursday of each month watching the kids. Feel free to bring them along.
We have introduced many new ideas to help enhance all of our roundtable activities. One of those new ideas is Cubby a stuffed bear that will travel from pack to pack and be embellished by each unit. This is an award that will be passed to a lucky roundtable participant for possible one of the following reasons, most attendance, newest Scouter, most years as a Scouter, bringing someone new to roundtable, etc. Never know what we will pick, so just show up to find out.
We are always looking for new volunteers to help out the roundtable staff each month. Please call Diane at
for more information and details. (Continued on Page 7.)
