Council
Auction Helped Raise Funds
March
25th was the ninth year
of the Concho Valley Boy
Scout Auction. We had a
difficult time securing
a suitable building. Diligent
efforts began in December
but few doors were opening
for us. The better spots
were either under contract
or scheduled for construction
activities. The Shook Tire
building was finally secured
three weeks before the auction.
We still had enough time
to gather sufficient treasures
to fill the building for
another round of treasure
reallocation. We were short
on buyers this year and
our fund raising fell short
of some of the past auctions.
The auction was still a
great time and opportunity
for fellowship for Scouters
and the community and raised
needed funds for the Council.
We want to thank all of
those who helped with the
auction and the donors and
buyers who made it possible.
A special thanks goes out
to Oxley Auction for donating
their skills to run the
auction and to Ted Covington
for the use of his building.
Thank you Bruce Willig
for Chairing this special
event to support over 2000
youth.

Youth
Protection Training for Scouts Available
on DVD Youth
Protection Month is an opportune time for
adults and children to discuss this serious
subject. Since 1988, the Boy Scouts of America
has provided adult and youth training to
combat this societal problem. For Adults,
we have youth protection Guidelines for
Parents and Leaders. For youth, the BSA
uses a variety of tools, including DVDs,
to communicate with young people about protecting
themselves against all forms of abuse. The
BSA’s award-winning videos of child abuse
prevention help youth recognize dangerous
situations and avoid becoming victims.
The
Video “It Happened to Me” is designed for
boys 6 to 9, to view with their parents
or guardians. “A Time to Tell” is the all-new
video for youth 10 to 14. The third video,
“Youth Protection: Personal Safety Awareness”,
is designed for any young adult (boy or
girl) ages 14 to 20. The comic book series
“Power Pack Pals” has been created to illustrate
to Cub Scout-age boys the harms that bullying
may cause, how to be safe when using the
internet, and the four rules for personal
safety. Visit the council office to obtain
a copy.
